Ministries at Providence

"Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart...For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake." ~ 2 Corinthians 4: 1 & 5

Children's Ministry

The purpose of the Children's Ministry is to encourage and motivate children to stay actively involved in church activities, coordinate activities for children in conjunction with other child groups and ministries, and plan special days or events for children, including Children's Day. Children's Day is typically celebrated on the third Sunday in June.

Evangelism Ministry

The Evangelism Ministry spreads the "Good News" by going to the community. Activities include "Take It to the Streets", the annual Church-Wide March, and Christmas caroling. The ministry is always looking for new and innovative ways to expand their outreach and be disciples for Christ.

Family Life Ministry

The mission of the Family Life Ministry is to plan programs and activities in conjunction with the Board of Christian Education, which meet the needs of the youth, children, adults, and families in the church and surrounding community.

HIV/AIDS Ministry

Providence is here to be a friend to those who are infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. "Carry each other's burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." ~Galatians 5:2

The mission of the Providence HIV/AIDS Ministry is to:

1) provide spiritual support for people who are infected with the HIV virus and to families and friends who are affected by HIV/AIDS;

2) show compassion and understanding as they cope with the consequences of the disease;

3) increase awareness by providing education on prevention of HIV for all ages; and

4) assist persons involved in seeking medical and emotional support.

Committee for the Homeless

This committee works to support homeless individuals and families in the community. They cook, buy, and serve food at homeless shelters throughout the year. They also provide homeless people with care packages that may include water, snacks, cleaning products, articles of clothing (i.e., gloves, hats, sweaters), toiletries, and blankets. Historically, they have led Providence in the adoption of several families through the Agape House's Angel Tree Program at Christmas so that church members could families in need with food and gifts. Lastly, most people know that the Homeless Committee is famous for its spring candy sale where they sell the best peanut clusters on the East Coast. What they may not know is that the proceeds from that candy sale go to supporting homeless individuals, families, and shelters. For example, we have helped community members secure furniture and household items with funds raised.

Missionary Society

In accordance with the mission statement of Providence, the Missionary Society works to:

1. spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all people through worship service, religious education, and financial support.

2. improve the quality of life by meeting the physical and spiritual needs of persons locally, nationally and internationally.

3. join other organizations whose goals are in accordance with our mission.

Providence's Missionary Society is guided by Matthew 28:19, "Go yet therefore, and teach all nations, bapitizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" and John 23: 35, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

Multimedia Ministry

The Multimedia Ministry of Providence exists to enhance the lives of others by communicating the Good News of the love of God through Jesus Christ by way of sound, visual, and audio means. This ministry is guided by 1 Peter: 4:11, "If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth; that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ: to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever."

The ministry produces, duplicates, and disseminates audio and video recordings of worship services, concerts, and other church-related programs upon request, and makes a special effort to provide recordings to those who are ill, shut-in, or unable to attend church services.

Visionettes Liturgical Dance Ministry

The Visionettes are a third generation of children and youth that minister through the form of dance. Our name was derived from the Visionnares, which was the first generation of youth who ministered through the form of dance under the leadership of the late Sister Vernice Matthews.

The mission of the Visionettes Dance Ministry is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through the ministry of dance to Providence Baptist Church, other churches, and communities and to support the other ministries, clubs, and choirs of Providence. Our purpose is to edify the body of Christ through dance wherever we are asked to minister.

Women's Ministry

The goal of the Women's Ministry is to provide spiritual opportunities to strengthen the women of Providence Baptist Church. This ministry plans programs and retreats for church and community members including their annual Women's Fellowship, which provides ladies an opportunity to practice self care and engage in uplifting conversation with their peers.

Young Adult Ministry

The Young Adult Ministry caters to "new" adults between 18-35 years old. This ministry seeks to support young adults in managing careers, dating/marriage, social engagement all while staying connected to Christ. The ministry plans college fairs and fellowship activities to feed the needs of this unique age group.

Youth Ministry Ministry

The Youth Ministry focuses on young people (ages 12-18). The ministry provides opportunities for the young people to share in worship experiences and other activities within and outside the church that foster spiritual growth and leadership skills. Members of the Youth Ministry are an integral part of our church body and they help to bring young community members to Christ through their ministry work.

The youth are involved in a variety of church related activities including Unity Day, Church-wide Institute, Graduation Celebration, Vacation Bible Church School, Sunday Church School, the annual Church Summer Fellowship, and the Lott Carey Baptist Youth Seminar.
