"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." ~ Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Edna Over Campbell Scholarship

The Edna Over Campbell (EOC) Scholarship was established in 1985 at Providence Baptist Church by the late Mrs. Edna Over Campbell through gifts received from "Friends of Edna," most of whom were members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Campbell, who served as her sorority’s 12th national president, was a career educator and mentor to students desiring to further their careers in education. The daughter of Providence's first pastor, Rev. Dr. David E. Over, Mrs. Campbell had a local and national impact on our community through her service on Morgan State University's Board of Regents, the Health and Welfare Council of Maryland, and the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). Throughout her life, Mrs. Campbell was committed to educational excellence, leadership and personal achievement.

The purpose of her scholarship is to assist the youth of Providence in meeting their financial needs in pursuit of post-high school education.

The application is open from February 1st to May 31st each year.

Juanita Jones Williams Scholarship

The Juanita Jones Williams (JJW) Scholarship was started by Deaconess Juanita Jones Williams herself, an English and drama educator at the high school and college levels for more than 40 years. Mrs. Williams, who was the wife of Deacon Earl Williams, served on several committees within our church and community with the goal of providing educational support and advice to individuals pursuing secondary and post-secondary studies. Her motivation to encourage such pursuits resulted in a focused commitment to establishing this scholarship (bearing her name) using funds from her personal estate.

Established in 1998, the purpose of this scholarship is to support, encourage, and assist students in their quest to further their education and training.

The application is open from February 1st to May 31st each year.

Marcus Garvey Wood & Bessie Hazle Wood
Education Grant

The Rev. Marcus Garvey Wood and Bessie Hazle Wood Education Grant, originally called the PBC Education Grant, was renamed after Providence's third pastor and first lady. With more than 65 years of service to our church and the larger community, Rev. and Mrs. Wood were life-long learners and strong believers in equal opportunities for African Americans. Both advocated for others to make a commitment to learning, pursue new knowledge, and set higher educational goals at any age. A civil rights leader and Maryland icon, Rev. Wood was the classmate of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Crozer Theological Seminary and had a friendship with him that lasted until Dr. King's death in 1968. Additionally, Rev. and Mrs. Wood hosted iconic national leaders like Mrs. Rosa Parks in their home and church during the Civil Rights Movement.

The purpose of this grant is to financially assist persons of the church fellowship and the larger community in pursuit of their academic and training goals.

The application is open from February 1st to May 31st each year.
